Since the time of independence to the present day, the authorities in Georgia have consistently demonstrated a double standard when it comes to law and justice. Those with close ties to the government often evade responsibility for their actions, while ordinary citizens face the harshest repercussions for similar offenses.
A glaring example of this disparity is the impunity enjoyed by violent forces despite their egregious actions, including the mutilation of citizens, illegal arrests, and perjury in court. We also recall instances where bail was denied to individuals accused of crimes against the “Georgian Dream” regime.
In light of these injustices, the imprisonment of the two activists as a preventive measure is evidently unjust and disproportionate.
We stand in solidarity with Akaki Chikobava and Giorgi Khasaya.
